Summary/Abstract: Although at a historiographical level the scarcity (or ambiguity) of historical data does not grant Silvania (the shires called Crasna and Solnocul de Mijloc until 1876) a complete status of a Romanian county, we use evidences taken from the collective mentality, as illustrated by the annotations, to describe this silvanian topos, from the point of view of the contemporary representations, placing ourselves in the proximity of a „symbolical geography” of this historical territory (worthy of being rehabilitated) with profound identity significance. In order to understand correctly the author’s approach in a larger context, adequate to the topic of the thesis Dimensions of the Modern Culture in the Silvania County (XVIIth and the XIXth century). Books and owners, the entire argumentation follows both the historical and the spatio-temporal aspects: the „regional decoupage” allowed a more precise presentation of the geography of old Romanian book circulation in this area. The presentation of the historical context and especially of the confessional particularities of the Silvania County along the XVIIth and the XIXth centuries (the only chapter of the book that is entirely based on other historical sources than the annotations) allowed to author to emphasize the importance of the contribution of the Greek-Catholic to the process of national, cultural and spiritual edification of this area and the decisive part played by the old Romanian book, which is historiographically evident even at the level of the annotations.
