Summary/Abstract: Post-colonial criticism of literature and culture, and in particular of the dominant western projections and representations of colonial peoples and regions and the consequences of such a stance, evolved in the second half of the 20th century into an extremely powerful theoretical and academic discipline. Through a reading of a referential literature work by an author well known to us, this paper considers possible models and patterns on the basis of which projections and perceptions of the Orient, and of people from the Orient and their mentality, to which postcolonial criticism draws attention and which are the subject of its critical analysis, have been created in this part of the world.
