Summary/Abstract: The paper studies the reception of Friedrich Nietzsche’s works by some of the chief Romanian philosophers and writers around the year 1900. It presents the editions of Nietzsche’s volumes found in the Romanian libraries either in the original, or in French translations, that may have been consulted by the readers concerned, and analyses the attitude adopted by I.L. Caragiale in favour of the publication of a monography on Nietzsche’s life and work by a then young philosopher, Constantin RădulescuMotru, who became one of the prominent figures of Romanian thought throughout the first half of the 20th century. Finally, the author studies RădulescuMotru’s philosophical discourse to detect convergency and divergency points with Nietzsche’s ideas, in order to complete the description of the philosophical context that the diffusion of Nietzsche’s works gradually modified
