Financial result as a measureof public university performance

Summary/Abstract: Financial result has become one of the most important parameters for assessing performance in public universities. This implies the need to introduce such systems of university management which would prompt managers to activities aimed at lowering costs and increasing revenues. These goals may be achieved by transferring decision-making powers relating to financial management to lower levels of management, such as basic units, departments, institutes etc. The aim of the study is to present the evolution of a financial management model of a public university on the example of the University of Łódź. The manner in which the financial result is seen as a measure of university performance was presented for each of the options.
