Summary/Abstract: The relationship between professional translation and cultural-linguistic mediation can only be approached in close connection with a series of core, pragmatic aspects meant to delineate the area of debate and substantiate the perspective to be adopted. Of these, the common perception of the translator and conference interpreter by the society, translation and conference interpreting as distinct professions in their own right, that require the acquisition of complex, interdisciplinary skills, are uncircumventable issues, whose very treatment points to their unquestionable belonging to the realm of professional linguistic-cultural mediation.
