Summary/Abstract: The article studies the need of first year students for physical activeness, their body development and preparedness in regard to social environment aspect, i.e., the place of residence. The research fulfilled with 670 Vilnius Pedagogical University first year students did not show a considerable difference of their attitude towards the kinds of physical activeness, their need for physical activeness and physical condition between the students coming from the biggest Lithuanian towns and those from the smaller places of residence. The majority of the first year female students expressed their wish to attend aerobics, and male students – basketball classes. However, 80 percent of female and 53 percent of male students wished to go in for sports only once a week. This is indication of the fact that first year students are not determined for regular recommended physical activeness, which calls for the need to strengthen their motivation for physical activeness, altogether creating real conditions to attend sport practices.
