Summary/Abstract: The graphic art of Romas Orantas can be divided into conventional and autonomous book illustrations. The first are direct visual interpretations of the book's text, the second tend to surpass and enrich its content. Works belonging to the latter are the most interesting and promising. In them, the artist applies a peculiar, half-surrealistic language of mythical symbols taken from various cultures. Images from Lithuanian mythology are intertwined with archaic images from the East. The style of his graphic work is concise, metaphorical and poetic. The artist deliberately avoids refinement. Of his last works, the illustrations to the following books could be mentioned: S. Geda's, Socrates Talks with the Wind (2001), M. Martinaitis' K.B. the Suspect (2004), A. Marčėnas' Worlds (2005), K. Navakas' The Chronicles of the Good Life (2005) and A. Marčėnas' The Simple (2006).
