Bulgaria and the Question of Thrakia at the Conference of Lausanne

Summary/Abstract: From the point of view of the Bulgarian delegation the article analyzes the international negotiations at the Conference in Lausanne (1922-23). For Bulgaria the question of its access to the Aegean Sea beside the status of some 200.000 Bulgarian refugies from the Thrakia region was the key issue at the conference. Access to the Aegean Sea could be guaranteed for Bulgaria only by an independent status of Thrakia or at least a kind of corridor along the river Maritza, but Bulgaria didn't succeed to overcome the French and British opposition in Lausanne. The author tries to analyze the background especially of the British position.
