Summary/Abstract: Beata Stankiewicz-Szczerbik wanted to be ‘an architect of light’. She studied glass art under Prof.. Zbigniew Horbowy and Prof. Ma³gorzata Dajewska. Also, she studied stained glass window art under Ryszard Wiêckowski. She had her first show in 1996. She showed stained glass female figures. She has been faithful to that theme since her debut. She reveals the duality of feminine nature. She believes that women are both ideal and alienated, dangerous (provocative) and virtuous. She says, that women are ‘born to suffering’. In 1997, she started using different techniques, such as pate de verre and fusing. He sculpture entitled ‘Blue Female Figure’ shows a nude woman wearing a black mask, and dressed in a blue dress. The artist also is interested in such themes as cats, which symbolize the ideal beauty and mystery. Their ambivalent nature is connected with the ambivalent nature of women. Stankiewicz-Szczerbik likes to show other forms, such as bowls and glasses. Her stained glass windows are popular items on art markets in Poland and abroad. In 1999, she participated in an exhibition organized by the Corning Museum of Glass. It was entitled ‘New Glass 20’. In 2003, she received merit awards from the ‘Ornamenta Silesiae’ exhibition, and from Glass 2003 exhibition in Wroc³aw.
