Summary/Abstract: This paper provides a brief overview of the position of philosophy in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the last thirteen years. Philosophy is studied on five philosophical faculties or universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo (The University of Sarajevo), Faculty of Philosophy in East Sarajevo (The University of East Sarajevo), Faculty of Philosophy in Tuzla (The University of Tuzla), Faculty of Philosophy in Mostar (The University of Mostar), and the Faculty of Philosophy in Banja Luka (The University of Banja Luka). Before the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina philosophical books were published with the help of the state. From 2000 until today, a number of philosophical books were published by universities and private publishing houses. Today the non-govermental organizations Hijatus (Zenica) and Theoria (Sarajevo) continuously publish philosophical works. Part of the philosophical books published by Hijatus deal with ancient philosophy and with those philosophical schools and directions about which even scholars in countries with much longer philosophical traditions rarely write: on the Cynics, Cyrenaics and Sophists. Hijatus has published several books on the philosophy of Socrates, a brief history of pragmatism, and a book about Georg Simmel. Philosophical society Theoria as well as other publishers have published books in the field of political philosophy, bioethics, animal rights, and books dealing with the philosophies of Kant, Hegel and Heidegger.
