Summary/Abstract: Fear is inherent in human society, but it is equally true that it is an odd feeling. That is the topic of this paper. My task is to consider the problem of fear in politics, or, more precisely, the manner in which fear relates toward the nature of political order. That is the problem „frighteningly relevant“ for political scientists, but, let me add, that is the task which has been neglected in political science and faced with many obstacles. Approaching the problem of fear in politics, political theory meets a large problem of remaining unfinished; the danger which can be avoided with the awareness about its limitations and listening to authorities from other disciplines, particularly those from the field of political psychology. This means to accept the idea of „architectonic nature of political sciences“, in other words, that political sciences revolves exclusively around a single problem and uses all sorts of methods to attack this problem. The idea of fear depends on such locus; discussion about fear should be open for all disciplines that are sensitive to the very basic concept of human freedom. Systematic fear is the condition which makes freedom impossible; only a human being that is not afraid can decide freely.
