Summary/Abstract: The article discusses sixteen smoking pipes preserved in the collection of the Ethnographical Museum in Reghin (Mureş County) and discovered as stray finds in that town. The items are dated between the 17th and the 20th centuries; most are made of red or black clay, sometimes having metal implements, but one has been carved out of wood. After an introductory brief history of smoking in Transylvania, the author presents the pipes, their analogies, markings, type, and possible centers of production. According to groups of similar pipes and the presence or absence of usage traces, some of the items might have been produced locally or might have been traded in lots. Annex 1 includes a terminological definition of pipe parts, since such terms are not yet established or unified in Romanian. Annex 2 details the technical characteristics of the pipes in Reghin, while Annex 3 contributes to the research of smoking in Transylvania by providing a standard recording form for pipes in museum collections.
