Summary/Abstract: Salvation in the Old Testament is closely related to the agreement between God and the man – covenant. God makes covenants with people in order to save his most perfect creation – man – from death and help him reach salvation. God makes covenants with people: Noah and his family, Abraham and his kin, Moses and the Israelites, David and his kingdom – to establish reconciliation, to offer help and promise reward for its acceptance. These covenants were important to the whole human race and they were the turning-point in the world history. Later God’s covenants with people share the features of the Covenant with Noah: • God initiated and dictated the covenant with Noah. • This covenant applied to Noah and all the future generations. • This is a universal covenant. • God’s covenant with Noah is unconditional. • This covenant was God’s promise never to punish the world with flood. • The rainbow is the sign of God’s covenant with Noah and the sign of God’s adherence. Thus, salvation history is the history of God’s love. God is the prime subject looking for the man. The Lord goes out seeking, offering salvation.
