Summary/Abstract: When adverbs perform the function of a modifier in the sentence, they add information about the circumstances of an activity or state described in a clause. Still other adverbs serve connective functions. Many of them are multifunctional, since they can combine two or more different functions, clearly showing the ambivalence associated with adverbial scope.
