Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated to the significance that the collections of the prominent Russian scholar had for the nineteenth century folkloristics. The big number of studies up to now have failed to reveal all the advantages of Grigorovich’s research work. In this article his heritage is analyzed mainly in respect to the questions of “When and where the scholar had found the songs” and “How are we to evaluate the quality of what he had recorded”. The most essential part of the article is the detailed survey of the Grigorovich collection of Bulgarian folk-songs, especially the represented unfamiliar to date texts, derived from Russian and Czech sources.
