Summary/Abstract: This essay is based on the results of a case study of the Gypsy singer Anita Kristy, an author of songs and song lyrics. Her autobiographic version and her cassette albums of songs "Nomadi I", "Nomadi II" and "Nomadi III" ("Nomadi II" and "Nomadi III" not yet completed) have been studied. Observations have been made of her public shows (live) and media appearances. The article discusses the idea of Anita Kristy as the bearer of a "neomythological historical consciousness" (E. Marushiakova, V. Popov), which the singer arrives at in the process of reconsideration of the "Gypsy problem" (discriminatory attitude to the Gypsies) and its transformation from an immediate menace (during her life in Bulgaria until she became established to work in Germany) into "a task of life". Anita Kristy abandons her 20 year long career of a show singer in places of entertainment and devotes herself to creative work of revival and enlightenment, getting increasingly farther from the genre features of "the musical Gypsiness". Spontaneously retrained, she finds ways of developing forms and a manner of creativity and self-expression, which are new to her. Anita Kristy has a mythical self-perception, considering herself to be one of those "people with a holy mission, who live for centuries on this earth, without sleeping." (Excerpt from the song "Make Your Choice", the album "Nomadi III").
