Summary/Abstract: This essay about the Swiss German prose of Aglaja Veteranyi, a writer originally from Rumania but with no knowledge of the Rumanian language, is applying the theories of visuality, as defined by Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht, Gernot Böhme and Martin Seel in their recent books about “atmosphere”,”appearance” and the” new esthetics”. The visual experience is not only due to the effect of the text itself, but also depending of the cultural horizon of the reader; it is a permanent exchange between the “effects of presence” and those “of meaning”.
