Summary/Abstract: The author describes the classifications of the Polish language variations. She states that, in all classifications, the literary language, also called the artistic language, holds the highest position, while dialects – the lowest. These classifications refer to the dialects as the uniform formations, which are in opposition to the standard language. The author disagrees with this approach and proposes some graphic models which show that all the main Polish dialects (i.e. śląski, małopolski, mazowiecki, wielkopolski and kaszubski) have participated in forming the standard Polish. The author also thins that not only the standard language but also the dialects can be the material for the literary works of high artistic value.
