Some clerical documents, written after people who took part in each lawsuit, were fixing the living spoken language of that period. Comparing with the monuments of the other styles from the 16th–17th century, the judicial books were the least underwent editing according to the language usage. Despite a lot of similarities with the books from the ethnic Poland, the language of judicial books reflects the borderland specificity connected with the Ukrainian influences. The goal of the present article is to show this specificity by the example of Polish of the Ovruch provincial book (1678). The linguistic analyses permits to describe the differential graphical features, such as confusing letters and the lack of regulations in some graphemes use; to characterize the phonetic and morphological features, borrowed from the Ukrainian language system, and the archaic Polish features, supported by the Ukrainian influence; to sign out the lexical and semantic borrowings.
