Summary/Abstract: The analysis of homonymic naming identifications is based on an appellative ground. The terminology and methodology used in the research on appellative homonymy can be only partly used in the analysis of linguistic phenomena associated with proprial homonymy, which is the result of the differences between nomen appellativum and nomen proprium. Naming homonymy ought to be studied on the diachronic plane, taking into account the dates of the particular proper name creation, the Polish language lexical supply as well as derivational processes and the formation mechanisms of proper names which become active with the development of the Polish language. Chrony should be also considered as an interpretation rule. The answer to the question asked in the title of the article will be possible after a thorough analysis of the naming material with regard to linguistic and cultural mechanisms of antroponymic homonymy formation.
