Summary/Abstract: In the novelistic world of Dorota Masłowska everything (ideas, language, religion art and even the objects themselves) is a simple appearance. Her claustrophobic diagnosis of postmodernity echoes the ideas of McLuhan, Toffler, Marcuse, Benjamin, Bauman, Baudrillard, among others, even though it does not repeat them. The writer uses the parody as understood by Linda Hutcheon, i.e. “repetition with critical distance”. This is the source of Masłowska’s net of intertextual an intercultural references ironically travestying patterns of high and low culture. However, laughter hides sympathy for people aggrieved by fate.
