Keywords: humanities; contemporary human being
Summary/Abstract: Inspired by Michał Paweł Markowski’s Polityka wrażliwości (Politics of sensibility) the article not only offers a critique of its diagnosis and solutions, but also opens up a broader discussion with poststructuralist theory of culture. According to the author, the latter is not able to grasp the specific character of contemporary culture nor it allows to reflect on it, hence it could not be a proper basis for the research in the humanities. The article offers a sketch of an alternative idea for the humanities, focused on the question of emancipation. The author claims that the humanities should most of all help in the construction of a subjectivity – both individual and collective – which would allow contemporary human being – as an individual and as a species – to create a common, human world in a way autonomous and free of alienation.
