At the resort. On the non-modern character of spa

Summary/Abstract: Spa is an exceptional cultural hybrid, a place where modernity (with rationalization and specialization) is present to a very limited extent and where one can still sense the premodern world. The symbol of such a combination is the floral clock which unites industrial time (fixed and objective) with natural time (regulated by the rhythm of nature). Spa is at the same time the harbinger of postmodernity and “de-differentiation”.
