Summary/Abstract: The exact number of people of the Polish diaspora, now inhabiting the largest state of South America remains unknown. There is no proper statistics data, whereas in literature and documentation, considerable discrepancy appears. Some claim that Brazil is currently inhabited by about 800,000 people of Polish origin, while some others say it is around 1,500,000, with Polish diaspora leaders estimating it at about 2 - 2.5 m. One can absolutely be certain, however, about the fact that Brazil is inhabited by the majority of Latin-American Polish diaspora and that emigrating of the Poles to Brazil, which had started in 1869, claims the longest history. The story of the Poles in Brazil is a great variety of interesting experiences of the two coexisting nations. In that story a number of Poles wrote their own significant chapters. Thanks to this, one can still find there the aftermath of the Polish “Brazilian Rush” of the late 19th century.
