Summary/Abstract: Transformation of Polish economy into market-oriented economy has caused numerous significant changes in the regulatory system of conducting banking activity. These changes have been initiated greatly by innovative solutions introduced primarily on international scale and later implemented in state banking. The major aim of the present study was to outline the impact of key regulations of the Basel Committee III on the shape of economic-financial situation of Polish cooperative banks. The study was based on current publications, the results of observations and own experience of the author. The results of conducted analyses and literature research indicate that the implementation of Basel III regulations in the reality of Polish cooperative banking without introducing significant changes in the law specifying their activity and additional systems guaranteeing safety of their functioning may put further existence of those at risk with the weakest equity which currently meets all economic requirements of cooperative banking. In the author’s opinion, the implementation of such regulations as Basel III should take into account the size of banks, their organizational and legal frame as well as specific character of their activity.
