The participation of disabled people in Poland

Summary/Abstract: People with disabilities constitute a significant part of the population- currently around 11% of the population of Poland. The main source of income for most of these people with disabilities are an annuity, pension and all sorts of other social benefits. The income derived from these titles is at a very low level. This situation can be changed by creating a functioning system for activation of disabled people. This article reviews the current system of activation of disabled people in Poland, and points out the main reasons for low efficiency of the implemented solutions. It mentions among other things: financial problems, psychosocial, low level public awareness and absence of a comprehensive cooperation between PFRON, employment agencies, district offices, employers, and other interested bodies.
