Summary/Abstract: The phenomenon of silence is a problem which is at the crossroads of many current trends of Humanities and Social Sciences. The topic of a silent hero is im-portant in the field of literary and artistic realizations of silence. It vividly appears in the litera-ture of totalitarian societies. Works of V. Pidmohylny belong to the era of the Executed Re-naissance. In his prose the figure of silent hero is a ‘carrier’ of silence which is subjected in the text. A silent hero of V. Pidmohylny is characterized with the following qualities: interest in outside world, the interpretation of events, analysis of experience (novel ‘City’, short stories ‘Gaydamak’, ‘Son’ et al.); solitary and communicative isolation (short stories ‘The History of Mrs. Yivha’, ‘Military Pilot, “Old Man’ et al.).
