Summary/Abstract: This articles considers the topicality of categories defined by Maria Ossowska, and the options for applying them, in the context of analysis of ethical discourse in present-day Poland. In order to reveal their potential and compatibility for the social reality of today, the categories of altruism and egoism will be used for interpreting the findings of research regarding the social activeness of Poles in the year 2014.
