Waste management as a part of the strategic management in local self-government units

Summary/Abstract: Waste management requires a comprehensive approach to the problem of its generation, collection, recovery and disposal. Regional governments prepare strategic documents in the form of waste management plans (PGO), which support the strategic objectives of sustainable development of those units, in order to improve these processes. In this study, PGO’s analyses led to the identification of conditions, objectives, activities and indicators of waste management in the years 2008-2014. Based on available statistical data from the years 2008-2012, the new synthetic measure of the efficiency of waste management in local regions has been proposed. That measure has allowed for the identification of regional differences in waste management.
