Summary/Abstract: In 1867 in Lviv was founded The Polish Gymnastic Association «Sokół», whose main task was to promote exercising among Polish population residing in Galicja, which at that time the part of the Habsburg Monarchy. In subsequent years «Sokół» organizations were also established in two other Polish invaders — Prussia and Russia. In those difficult times for the Poles deprived of statehood The Polish Gymnastic Association «Sokół» was a mainstay of the fight for independence. Such a indirection also had «Sokół» in Wieliczka, which was founded in 1892. Throughout the years of its working its members («druhowie») participated in the promotion of physical education and culture in the city. In 1914–1918 many members of «Sokół» in Wieliczka fought in Polish Legions, existing in the austro-hungarian army, against the Russian army. The break in the activities The Polish Gymnastic Association «Sokół» in Wieliczka came on 1 September 1939. After the end of World War II, new local communist authorities did not allow to register «Sokół». In 1948 the organization was completely dissolved.
