Global governance in the area of international trade – role of the WTO

Summary/Abstract: The main purpose of this paper is to characterize the world trading system from the perspective of global governance and to consider present and future role of the WTO in this system. At the beginning there is a description of the global governance idea, based on scientific literature, and the WTO – history and present shape of this organization. Next the author considers if the idea is fulfilled in the present world trading system and whether the World Trade Organization is a platform of global governance of trade. In the face of negative answer the article ends with an outline of possible scenarios of changes in world trading system, which may lead to the implementation of global governance idea, what, in author’s opinion, is necessary in the future.
