Summary/Abstract: In the summer of 1934, several actors of the Brno German-speaking theatre founded the cabaret KIF (Kleinkunst im Freien – Cabaret in the Park). The cabaret offered a variety of artistic forms, from one-act plays and operettas, parodies, songs, dances and sketches, to acrobats and clowns, and was a huge success both with audiences and critics. The article explores the programs and traces the protagonists, describing the KIF as an artform of in-between. As cabaret it was composed of the single artistic genres that were staged, but at the same time it was a genre on its own, strongly relying on aspects of intertheatrality and interactivity. Furthermore, as one station in the network of exile theatres it represented a phase of in-betweenness for many of the partaking actors and actresses.
