Summary/Abstract: The paper addresses the problem of the use of Facebook by Polish political parties and their voters. Profiles of eight parties – with or without parliamentary representation – have been analyzed. Results of the research prove that both politicians as well as Facebook users regard the party profile mostly as an instrument for distribution of information. Political mobilization and building group identity play limited and secondary roles. It is worth stressing that there is no direct relation between the position occupied by a specific party on the political scene and the intensity of potential Facebook use. Parties which avail themselves of the more advanced capabilities of social networks are most often outsiders on the political scene, only struggling for a strong political position.
