Summary/Abstract: This paper represents the description of a trial. The question which seeks an answer can be put as follows: how do students or participants in a foreign language course, who are used to different standard materials in order to learn the respective foreign language (German in this case), react when presented with children’s literature. The trail was conducted in two very different groups: different language skills (A2 level vs. B1 level), different learning situations (university students – compulsory course vs. one single course participant at a company), different group size (approx. 20 students vs. 1:1 teaching). Nonetheless the conclusion which can be drawn from both groups is that breaking the routine is a welcome change and that using authentic texts for children boosts the confidence of the participants so that they receive an impulse to continue learning the foreign language.
