Summary/Abstract: Communication of handicapped people with an environment is an essential factor that condi- tions development and improvement of many social and cognitive functions. Lack of possibility to communicate creates another barrier separating them from the healthy people (physically fit and speaking). Difficulties which originate lack of understanding by others in a consequence lead to the deprivation of sensorial and social needs. Speech enables greater participation in the social life then non-verbal behaviors. A word sets a man free from the contacts with a direct group, allows at the same time a direct contact (breaking the time and spatial limitations). On the other hand non-verbal communication links a man with a community that is accessible to him. But in the situation of the development disturbances of any kind communication process becomes disorganized, learning of a language in particular. A necessity arises to replace the verbal communication by a non-verbal one, which becomes an alternative that makes the active communication with the social environment possible. In the present article there was contained a reflection encompassing problems of the handicapped people relating to the verbal communicating and proposals of the chosen solutions in this scope.
