Summary/Abstract: The article by A. Konchalovsky is a brilliant challenge to the art critics who are afraid to say that „the emperor has no clothes“, a challenge to the commercialization of modern art and trade in works of art, pursued as an investment that promises returns over time. What has become important is not the creative achievements and aesthetic innovations but the scandal effect and pseudoinnovativeness, which aim to turn the work of art, and even its author, into a highpriced and prestigious commodity. Ranging from Marcel Duchamp’s „Fountain“ to Malevich’s „Black Square“, experimentation with art technique, and with the viewers’ esthetic taste, have staked on the simplicity and snobbishness of the public, but actually lead to a decline of art and art’s spiritual dimensions.
