Summary/Abstract: The recent change in electoral rules in Romania raises the question of their political (mis)use in favor on the ruling parties, in the context of a sharp post-accession hooliganism that marks the Romanian politics since 2007. With no external control, the ruling elites changed the rules of the democratic game in order to consolidate in power, deciding to overpass the previously existing political consensus regarding liberal democracy. By postponing elections, manipulating electoral rules and overruling democratic decisions by administrative procedures, post-accession hooligans consolidated in power with the cost of partially undermining the still inchoate Romanian democracy.
