Summary/Abstract: The paper presents and comments an unused source of data about the Bulgarian social history in the 17 th – 19th centuries – the diaries of the Greek travellers, who crossed the Balkans at the time of the transition of the Bulgarian society to modernity. The diaries reveal the social and cultural conditions during the 17th and 19th centuries.
