Summary/Abstract: The objective of the paper is to identify how large is the sector of organic farming in Romania. Romania is currently seen as a market more for raw materials and less for its processing capacity. Cereals (wheat and maize), vegetables and honey remain the main organic products. Romania has a huge potential in organic agriculture, with an area of 450,000 hectares certified for production and another 250,000 hectares with meadows and a number of 26,000 registered operators at the end of 2012. Romania exports 80 percent of its production, especially raw materials and very little processed produce.
