Summary/Abstract: Factors such as waste increase, environmental behaviour of consumers, the significance of ecological awareness in decision making processes in a company and the increasingly strict regulations regarding the environmental impact of businesses contribute to the creation of green supply chains. The chains realize processes of goods flows, and especially the reverse logistics processes, in line with environmental practices. The basic category and factor determining the formation of reverse flows in green supply chains are costs. The purpose of the article is twofold: a critical analysis of the subject literature in terms of assumed cost optimization criteria for reverse streams in green supply chains on one hand and the identification of non-economic factors which should be considered by cooperating partners in their decision making processes on the other one.
