Summary/Abstract: The appropriate for marriage age limit, has changed over the centuries. In early modern period of Polish history the limit was systematically raised, both in the legal records, and even more so in practice. The article analyzes the various historical sources (private correspondence, diaries sources), which illustrate the views of eighteenth-century nobility on this issue. On this basis, we can draw conclusions about what was considered as the appropriate age for marriage, how much marriage depends on the financial interests and family situation, and what age-difference between spouses was acceptable and what was controversial? Undoubtedly, the views and practices in the field of marriage in the eighteenth century were different from those in previous centuries, which was associated with changes of mores and mentality, including the increase of women’s independence.
