The postmodern urban space and the emerging social relations

Summary/Abstract: This article is an attempt to present the transformations, which are taking place in the postmodern urban space in reference to social relations. Used as a background for this analysis, was the image of Italy drawn from selected examples from contemporary literature, including works by such writers as Niccolò Ammaniti or Italo Calvino. Topics discussed include the individual perception of space, the sense of solitude in the city and the behavior during interactions with strangers. In the work much attention is paid to the meaning of non-places and the mass presence of places of the consumption.
