Innovation activity in regional industry systems and economic cycle in the example of Wielkopolskie Province

Summary/Abstract: Industrial systems in countries with signifi cant technological gap are often characterized by low competitiveness, as manifested by the low percentage of sales of high-tech products in the international market. The purpose of this article is to determine the direction and impact of the various phases of the business cycle on the activity of industrial enterprises. The achieved results of analyses confi rmed the presence of cyclic innovation activity in the region of Wielkopolska. Based on the analysis performed on a group of 918 industrial companies using probit regression it can be stated that in the period of recovery innovative activity occurs much more often than in other phases of the business cycle i.e. recession and stagnation. The economic situation is therefore an important and time-varying factor in the decisions of innovative companies. On this basis, it is necessary to relate current market conditions to programming of the impact on the phenomenon of the innovation process in our country
