Summary/Abstract: The digital revolution impacts greatly on both music and music education. This short account places recent developments in music education in England in a historical context and raises difficult questions for music educators to consider. Chief amongst these is the question of purpose and the need to clarify this in the light of contested and shifting cultural values.
