Summary/Abstract: The paper was prepared on the basis of field research performed in July 2013. The study included children and young people from Polish minority schools in the Czech part of Cieszyn Silesia. The aim of the research was to verify some of the widespread statements (myths) on the current linguistic situation in this region. Following the analysis of the authentic texts, the authors came to the following conclusions: 1) local colloquial speech is not exactly the same as the traditional Silesian dialect; 2) it differs clearly from informality (Polish colloquial speech) used in the Polish part of Cieszyn Silesia. The paper includes four phonetic transcriptions of texts recorded during the research.
