Summary/Abstract: The background of this phenomenon its the anatomical unhomogeneity of retina, seen in displacement of rods and cones. In the text, the following consequences of these conditions, different for central and peripheral zone, were mentioned: – visual acuity, – sensibility for light intensity, – sensibility for light wavelength, – existence and properties of receptive fields, – extraction of contours in images, – sensitivity of movement and changes in visual field, – geometrical properties of eye ball, – binocular vision, – representation in visual projection cortex, – sensibility for stress.
