Summary/Abstract: Paradoxes of the Social Status of Child. The study presents the problem of social status of children. It reviews the history of development of understanding the social status of child (from the right less status of a private property of fathers to the acceptance of children as human beings with their own human rights). The main focus is on the analysis of the present legislative framework that secures protection of the children rights and governmental programmes of social and family policy. It discuses the paradoxes of social status of child in a legislature, common values, and in competences of different social institutions. The paper concludes with proposals and recommendations how to secure an independent exercise of the human rights by children in the different areas of their life.
