DAN VOICULESCU'S SOLO PIANO WORKS

Summary/Abstract: Dan Voiculescu was a multi-faceted musician with an equal interest in composition, musicological research, performance and teaching. Piano music was a constant and permanent component of Dan Voiculescu's oeuvre, being his favourite field of endeavour. Conceived in two sections, this paper focuses on the general presentation of his 13 works for solo piano – providing information on their genesis, publication and performance history – and on the synthetic approach of certain elements of style and musical language that are characteristic of Dan Voiculescu's piano works, such as musical syntax, compositional techniques, genres approached and peculiarities of form, metric and rhythmic features, elements related to notation.
