Summary/Abstract: The book under review should be regarded as an expression of a rela¬tively new trend in the academic environment, the essence of which is in the fact that the phenomena of cities and urban development become an increasingly popular subject, beyond the traditional studies of urban fabric in the stream of urban planning, architectural approaches and styles, archeo¬logical layers of cities, etc. This trend of the last three decades is frequently referred to as a “spatial turn” or “return of spatial imagination” in social sciences and humanities. Its preconditions, as well as potential and already existent effects were thor¬oughly grounded historically and clarified in the late 1980s in a classical book of geographer and urban planner Edward Soja (1989).
