Improving social policy of Latvia as a factor of sustainable development of the state

Summary/Abstract: The article presents an analytical overview and defines the essence of the concept of “social policy” in the context of its relation to the economy. The article analyses a system of key indicators of socio-economic development of Latvia in the context of the European integration. It identifies problems faced by Latvia in its socio-economic development and ways to overcome them, as well as the necessity of the new model of socio-economic policy in Latvia. Ensuring the steady growth of the level and quality of life of the population and the creation of conditions for human development has to become the main goal of social policy of Latvia in the long term. The most important objectives of sustainable development of Latvia are the transition to innovative development, the implementation of system-wide changes in the economy and society with the construction of a highly socially-oriented market economy.
